Florida Hebrew University Gifting Policies

Florida Hebrew University (FHU) is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and transparency in its fundraising efforts. These gifting policies are designed to guide the acceptance, management, and recognition of gifts to FHU, ensuring that all contributions align with the mission and values of our institution.

1. Types of Acceptable Gifts
FHU accepts a variety of gifts, including but not limited to:

Cash Contributions: Direct donations via check, credit card, ACH, or wire transfer.

Securities: Stocks, bonds, or other marketable securities, which will be liquidated upon receipt unless otherwise directed.

Bequests and Planned Gifts: Donations made through wills, trusts, or other estate planning vehicles.

Real Estate: Gifts of real property, subject to approval and appropriate due diligence.

Tangible Personal Property: Gifts such as artwork, books, equipment, and other personal property relevant to FHU’s mission.

In-Kind Contributions: Non-monetary donations of goods or services that support FHU’s operations and programs.

Matching Gifts: Contributions made by employers to match gifts made by their employees.
2. Gift Acceptance
All gifts are subject to review to ensure they align with FHU’s mission and legal standards. FHU reserves the right to decline any gift that:

Conflicts with the values or mission of FHU.

Poses a potential liability or undue burden on the institution.

Includes conditions that FHU cannot reasonably fulfill.
3. Restricted Gifts
Donors may designate gifts for specific programs, projects, or purposes. However, such restrictions must be mutually agreed upon and documented in writing. FHU will make every effort to honor donor intent, but in cases where fulfilling the donor’s wishes becomes impractical, FHU reserves the right to redirect the funds to a purpose that closely aligns with the original intent, after consultation with the donor or their representative.
4. Naming Opportunities
FHU offers naming opportunities for significant gifts, including but not limited to scholarships, academic chairs, buildings, and programs. Naming rights are subject to approval by the FHU Board of Directors and must align with the institution’s values and mission.
5. Gift Recognition
FHU is committed to recognizing the generosity of its donors in a manner that respects their preferences and privacy. Recognition may include:

Listing in FHU publications or on the university’s website.

Naming opportunities as described above.

Invitations to special events and acknowledgment ceremonies.
Donors may choose to remain anonymous, and FHU will respect such requests to the fullest extent possible.

6. Donor Privacy
FHU is committed to protecting the privacy of its donors. Information about donors and their gifts will be handled with the utmost confidentiality, except as required by law or as explicitly agreed upon by the donor.

7. Tax Deductibility
FHU is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Donors should consult with their tax advisors regarding the specific tax implications of their gifts.

8. Gift Processing and Receipting
Upon receipt of a gift, FHU will provide the donor with a written acknowledgment and receipt for tax purposes. The receipt will include the date of the gift, the amount (for cash gifts), or a description of the property received (for non-cash gifts).
9. Policy Review and Amendments
These gifting policies are subject to periodic review and may be amended by the FHU Board of Directors as needed. Any changes to the policies will be communicated to donors in a timely manner.
